"well because obv the higher you are the further you can see"
Why is that, magic? Its because the higher you are the more you can see over the horizon. Given the earth curves about 8 inches per mile squared the crows nest allows you to see about 40 to 50 miles over what the deck can. And you've just explained why the telescope lets you see things you cant with the naked eye yourself, it brings them into focus. Keep the telescope on said object as it moves away from you and you'll watch it dissappear over the horizon, no amount of zooming will bring it back into view after only a couple miles at sea level.
With your logic, a sufficiently powerful telescope could see across the entire damn ocean but obviously it cannot, not even if youre standing on a skyscraper. I should be able to see the lowlands of Louisiana from the devon tower here in Oklahoma, but i cannot. All of this is basic stuff that can be tried at home, as iv done myself. Seems a bit moronic to invest yourself into something as groundbreaking as "the earth is flat" and just take someones word for it, just go to the ocean and bring a good telescope or camera. Stand on top of a skyscraper and look for landmasses that should be hidden by the [very visible] curve, you wont find them. This is pretty basic stuff, theres a reason we teach it to children.
Sorry, but thats some of the dumbest shit iv ever seen. Look at his math, hes 50 miles away and admits the 8 inch per square mile curve. That leaves only 33 feet obscured, meaning only a fraction of the 3-400 foot skyscrapers. That video was made either by a retard that cant do math or a shill who knew you wouldn't question it. Dont be gullible, and dont just take my word for it. Do the math yourself with the figures hes given
Edit: his math is even dumber than i realized, why the fuck is he multiplying? Hes 50 miles away. 8 inches per mile of curve. This leaves 33.4 feet obscured, aka the height of a ships mast. I even already pointed out that masts let ships see an extra 50 miles. Come on man wtf is this
