Think about it this way. People can be paid to do and say just about anything. I reckon many of the things we hear are largely propagandized to get two sides to hate each other. Reality is, we all have a common enemy, and it's a small group, imo.
As far as I know, they have been trying to stop the CIA opium production, think it was the Taliban who were going that. Probably why they were attacked. Maybe someone will correct me if I am wrong.
100% Over the target. 2 months after Mohammed Omar declared that Afghanistan would no longer allow its fields to produce drugs to poison its own people and the people of the world... Osama Bin Laden decides its time to become a guest under the protection of Pashtunwali, the cultural code of honor of the Pashtun people. Then 2 planes crashed into the WTCs in NYC.
Mohammed Omar was a populist that was uniting his nation and killing off drug growing weapons smuggling warlords for abuses against the people and especially against children
The older generations of Pashtuns do not like Islam -- it was imposed on them, and it is speculative that the Pastuns are one of the lost tribes of the Israelites.
Interesting; how many lost tribes are there?
I remember when Massoud was assassinated (2 days before 9/11), things really got rough after that.
There was a user here that was interested in the lost tribes subject. A based jew. As I recall, the Pashtun were not the only one, but they are the largest outside Israel (that should be called Judah if Israel were really a hebrew endeavor)
The Afghanis considered Massoud a warlord, not a hero. To the Tajiks certainly, but to other ethnicities, not at all. But the same could be said of Omar and the Pashtuns. He was no hero to the Hazara Tajiks or Uzbeks, for example. And Iran had no sense of kinship with the Talib either.
Heroic Massoud was a cabal dramatization for western audiences, and OBL played the villain. Likely both were pawns of the cabal. Omar however, was an independent Pashtun nationalist who despised communism and was pious, more so than Arab Islamists, who Talib view as corrupt disgusting and decadent.
Thanks!
Not quite. It was the Taliban that actually shut it down jeopardizing the CIA's world-wide 'black' projects. This is one of the reasons the US sent troops to Afghanistan.
The history of America's relationship with the Taliban goes back to the 1980s. It was the Taliban that the Carter Administration's Zbigniew Brzezinski funded to fight against the Soviets until the Soviets withdrew in 1989. When the Soviets withdrew, it was the Taliban that became Afghanistan's first installed government after the Soviets withdrew.
Years later, the Bush Administration’s held negotiations with the Taliban government for building a pipeline from Kazakhstan through Afghanistan to the Pakistani port city of Karachi. A branch of this pipeline was to feed all the power companies of western India. Emron had invested heavily in those power plants. It is well known that the American petroleum giant Unocal was very interested in this project and pursued it for years. However, in 1998 its efforts were thwarted because of the Afghanistan civil war and then after bin Laden was accused of blowing up two American embassies in Africa. This caused the Taliban to become diplomatically isolated. The regional instability halted any further discussions of the Afghanistan pipeline. Although, Bridas, a former Argentinean oil firm was favored by the Taliban and was willing to start building the pipeline despite the civil war.
It is interesting to note, the Taliban was first funded and installed by the American government, but were then ultimately overthrown by the U.S. Taliban delegates met with State Department officials ante bellum and Unocal in Washington D.C. and may have infuriated their hosts with their continued interest in Unocal’s competitor Bridas, (Bridas has since merged with BP Amoco Argentina). There are several reports that describe the Bush administration's negotiations concerning the pipeline with the Taliban including threats of war if the project was not allowed to pass through Afghanistan. The Taliban is now gone and a new Afghani President, Harmid Karzai was installed in the Afghanistan government. It is more than coincidence that President Karzai was a former Unocal consultant.
With the Karzai government, opium production immediately increased to previous levels before the Taliban came to power.
Thanks for all the info, very interesting.
