Debit is considered cash now in some places.
I have/had (sorry) had a checking and savings accounts. I drained them. However they always asked me if I wanted a Debit/credit card. I always told them NO. I simply would drive by my bank on Friday and go inside, fill out a withdrawal for the amount I needed for the week, and go pay my bills WITH CASH. This way no one could steal or me misplace/lose any card. They knew I showed up in person to withdraw money so no one could hack my accounts on line. It is much safer to do things the old fashioned way, in my opinion. Besides, I prefer it this way. If I wanted something on line, I simply got their address and sent them a money order. If I couldn't get it that way, oh well, you never miss something you might never have had. Case closed.
If the wife wants to buy online she builds up a cart over several weeks and then she uses cash to buy a visa debit card and uses that. Costs a dollar or two for the card but peace of mind is worth it.
Yes, my husband does this when he needs car parts and such. This works really well.
