I thought about this all week after watching the marchers in Paris last weekend. There were hundreds of thousands of people marching and only a handful of disrupters. There are going to be a few in every crowd, we just have to figure out how to deal with them. Ignoring them as much as possible and letting the police deal with them seems to work best.
But what I really liked about the French marching is that they had a drum corp with them and marched singing or chanting. That is how you stay cohesive and effective.

They are amazing. Had a chance to see a soccer game in France once. Same thing, they had a group that led the chants and cheers!
