According to official NHS data, fully vaccinated people are 5.1 times more likely to die than the unvaccinated if they catch the delta variant.
Between Feb 1 and Aug 2, the UK deaths from the delta variant were as follows:
Fully vaccinated = 402 deaths from 47,008 cases. (0.855% death rate)
Unvaccinated = 253 deaths from 151,054 cases. (0.167% death rate)
0.855 / 0.167 = 5.1 times higher death rate
On the flip side, according to the data, the fully vaccinated have less chance of catching the delta variant (47K cases versus 151K cases), but nevertheless, if you catch the delta variant, you are 5.1 times more likely to die if you are vaccinated, according to official NHS data.
We tried to warn them about antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE), but they didn't listen.
Yes... Real question is whether that rate persists as the immunity wears off after 6mo, and whether prior immunity is harmed.. still not known based on data I have seen
Adjusting for age would be interesting. My guess is that older, more susceptible people are fully vaxxed and hence would have a higher likelihood of being hospitalized or dying.
Good point.
I would, given the fact that many of these people already suffer from co-morbidities, that the amazing change is seen in the age brackets below. Especially people who have naturally obtained immunity.
0 - 65 age bracket.
