OR, one has overactive Apoptosis (cell death). Too many dead cells = sickness. Apoptosis is known to be cyclical. The Excretory organs (Lungs, Kidneys, etc...) kick in and try to expel the dead cellular material, which produce "symptoms."

Apoptosis is the only way for the virus to spread. If it remains in your living cells, they aren't spreading... Not even to your own other cells.
