I was absolutely shamed for refusing a tetanus shot in March. I’ve always had some reaction to them, even as a kid. The last one I got, more than 15 years ago made my whole arm and shoulder swell and hurt. My doctor noted the allergy in my chary and said the risk of an anaphylactic reaction was greater than the risk of tetanus.
The doctor ordered one for literal scrapes on my leg… not even bleeding. I refused, told her to check my chart, and she lectured for several minutes about tetanus. I was there because I ruptured my hamstring and tore it off the bone - which my surgeon later told me is one of the most painful injuries. Bitchy doc treated me like I was drug seeking and was generally a shitty person after I refused the shot.
She was horrible anyway, I ended up in tears several times until the nurse went to the charge nurse and got bitch doc banned from my room and decent doc took over.
I hope this makes sense. It’s early. No coffee yet.
The tetanus vaccine takes weeks to develop immunity so it's worthless if you actually just got tetanus, you would be dead before then. If you actually develop tetanus, there's a different treatment you would use. So basically, it's pointless to get the shot apart from handling "the next time".
