I got one of those chain-link throw blankets for Christmas.
That thing is neat. They aren't American-made, which sorta sucks, but they come from India, which isn't China at least. I can't complain about it too much, seeing how they aren't machine-knit, which is a lost art in the U.S. and China alike.
Anyway, about the blanket. It has a lot of air gap and if you roll it up it is like a really squishy pillow that somehow always feels cool to the touch. If it wasn't for this otherworldly aspect of it, I probably wouldn't bother making this post.
Don't let your cats near it though, they will peck and loose the threads out faster than you can blink.
It folds VERY compactly, but I wouldn't recommend it as a travel blanket. The thing just isn't durable enough by the very nature of the knitting pattern. It won't shear or tear, mind you, but it won't look as neat after rugged use. As it stands, the thing is probably the neatest blanket I've ever owned, though that's obviously not a tall order to fill.
On another note, I also got a neck pillow (I don't sleep with regular pillows). After about 5 months of use, it doesn't have any funk to it, so that's nice. They could stand to be stiffened a bit, but that's just me. I've since gone back to my old dollar-store neck pillow, but I sense switching between the two every so often (one that is too soft and one that is too stiff) might be better for my back anyway, so we will see. If he puts out various weights of fill like he does for his standard pillow line, I'd purchase the stiffer one in a heartbeat, so take that for what it's worth.
If you wanna help him out, and live in a humid region where you could use a very breathable blanket for those 100°+ days, he has my recommendation.
