A decade ago Australia was a hot place to expatriate too but I wouldn't go anywhere near the place now.

It's strange to look at the spots that seemed like plausible refuges that ended up being no-go-zones. I would say the factor most discounted was that you want your bugout spot to be a bit "trashy" and "dysfunctional" so elites stay away from it.
