Of course. Parents often try to educate their children. But in a family where the head does not possess authority, the children cannot learn--except from the world around them.
Something will have authority over your children. It should be parents. Sadly, in many homes teachers, or friends, or even TikTok has the authority. The authority is the place from where children derive their "truth". They will always get their beliefs from some source. The fact that they learn falsehoods and travel down the wrong paths means they did not recognize the authority of the good parent. Which means the good parent did not have authority.
Generations do as generations do. Individual parents do parenting. As the generations, beginning with the Boomers began to despise their parents, this problem entered generationally. However, individual parents can and do get respect from their children. I respected and listened to my parents. My children, grown and otherwise, do the same.
All children respect some authority. They listen to some voices and not others. It is the job of a parent to make certain that children listen to wisdom.
Spoken like a person who doesn't understand history. The fact that Baby Boomers failed to improve upon themselves with the wisdom of the Greatest Generation is not indicative of anything about my cohort (Generation X). Generation X is morally superior to the preceding Boomer cohort and politically more right wing at an earlier stage. We heeded the example of the Greatest Generation instead of the foolish narcissism of Boomers.
My posts are being downvoted by people who have disappointing children but who do not wish to shoulder blame or responsibility for that. "Sad. Loser parents are failing", as GEOTUS might say. It's time to learn from the parents who have failed and raise a better generation, not simply justify our mistakes. Grow up.
Disagree doesn't always work that way.
