If you're referring to the US removing the gold standard, that happened in August of 1971. Nixon made a speech on a Sunday night putting in price and pay freezes and moving us from the gold standard. Most people only heard the price and pay freeze part. The price and pay freeze was to delay inflation. It was really hitting us in 1975, so Carter got blamed for it by people who didn't remember what Nixon did.
