You're actually completely correct OP.

I've also been saying this for years, MJ12 told us the first 3 seasons of SG1 were a majestic production and based on facts.

The Goauld we're humans controlled by a mind altering parasite (symbiote) in the gut.

Several seasons in they found a cure too safely remove the symbiotes freeing the captive human from mind control.
