I think forum sliding is when you have a post like this, you open it, and the first comment (top comment) is something about a wedge issue like abortion. Then there are a chain of dozens and dozens of replies arguing about the wedge issue. As you scroll down, you might even get sucked in and start debating the wedge issue too. Then when people open the post, instead of reading discussion on the subject, the first hundred replies are about abortion. Sometimes by the time you read through all of those, you forgot what the post was originally even about. They do this a lot with jokes too I think. When a post comes up that seems relevant, often the first fifty comments are one-off joke chains. Some of that could be organic but often it feels like forum sliding to me, especially when the jokes aren’t even new or clever but instead just rehashing old shit, like Ben Shapiro’s wife being a doctor.
I totally agree with you about the joke thing. I always felt most of that was intentional forum sliding, especially when it goes on and on for like 50 replies.
Wedging isn't forum sliding, it forms part of consensus cracking etc. There's no point wedging something if you're trying to slide because wedges get people involved and stuck into it. It's still cointel distraction tactics but vanilla forum sliding is:
Is coffee good for you?
BOOM BOOM BOOM NEW BOOM BOOM BOOM
Reposted shit
Picture of a maga bitch with her tits and pussy half out

Reddit was almost designed to make meaningful conversation impossible, everything is a spin off of a spin off of a spin off, people take on maybe 5% of what's posted and because you can ignore anyone you like there's no incentive for completely retarded posters to get better or banned unless they're being gratuitous.
This community really should be on discourse or something instead [not discord].

That happens a hell of a lot here. I kept wondering what’s going on. Off-topic bullshit is really annoying. Good to know it’s been ID’d & has a name.
