Perhaps the downvotes are due to differences with definitions/semantics. What I meant by being open-minded was that I'm willing to allow room to consider the possibility that the other view is true.
Being open-minded is a good thing. Most of us are here because we're open-minded to a different view of the world vs. NPCs. And being open-minded to an NPC would convey that we're willing to hear them out... and perhaps they would reciprocate and hear us out.
