Excellent points. I have always been troubled with the concept of top down leadership. I can't imagine having to follow orders that I know are wrong or stupid or endanger lives unnecessarily. I would hope that all considering a military career and those already in the military would think long and hard about this. And more importantly, if they are willing to abandon the constitution and their oath to it in order to 'follow orders.'
Thanks for the info. I'm not talking about illegal orders though. I'm just talking about daft orders. I personally would find it very hard to 'follow orders' from someone who I believe is making a bad decision, or even someone who is not in the field and therefore, not fully comprehending the situation. Obviously, lots and lots of people don't have a problem following orders. And if you have complete trust and confidence in your command, that makes sense.

There is such a thing as illegal orders which you are not compelled to carry out. Just be ready to defend yourself in military court.
