Reticent means "reluctant to speak". The word you need is actually "reluctant".
Hrmm. It does say "slow to begin or proceed with a course of action because of doubts or uncertainty" but yeah, reluctant is certainly the better word.
Reticient is a synonym of reluctant.
Here's the definition from Webster's Dictionary. Pay attention to the 3rd defintion-

1 : inclined to be silent or uncommunicative in speech : reserved
2 : restrained in expression, presentation, or appearance the room has an aspect of reticent dignity— A. N. Whitehead
