If being in the park was so dangerous, WHY were the police there?

Shouldnt the police be back at the station where its safe, waiting for a legitimate call to come in?

Police arent essential. Lay them all off... for their own safety.

Wont anyone think of the poor, vulnerable police being sent into these extremely dangerous environments with just a flimy mask to protect them?
