Is there a general agreement on the reason the posts stopped on the day they did?

Best explanation I've heard was that the last post was right around the time that Grandpa Gropes' people were demanding access (to tech, information and stuff) as part of the 'transition'. Access they could have used to finish nailing down all the people on the team should they have continued posting, so they went dark to avoid detection.
