I know why we say don't quit, and to let them fire you, but my wife, who is a nurse, will lose her pension if she is fired, and won't be able to be re-hired at the same hospital system, should she decide to go back someday.
She feels more comfortable quitting now, and taking a couple of months off to survey the landscape of everything happening in the world, and I support her in this decision.
My question to all of you, other than the obvious opt out of fighting back with the law in the future, what are some drawbacks that we may be missing?

If she feels like she needs to quit as she is standing alone, then that is what she should do. She may not be eligible for unemployment and may not be able to take any legal action for losing her job but her pension will be intact and she can find somewhere more suitable to her values. She should try to get some positive references to take with her. Good luck to her, you and your family.
Thank you. Yes, she already has people that have offered to write her a reference. I absolutely agree that she needs to take them up on it before she turns in her notice to resign.
