Now as for my having been led to believe the troops wearing the masks and faceshields were not Americans, I apologize. I knew the uniforms looked like Marines, but people on Twitter were saying they were actually similar uniforms from the Philippines.

I was persuaded they were correct due to photos showing identical uniforms being worn by all Asian men, similar to the photo in the link that shows Asian men, and I didn't look any further.
The "clear and obvious humor" is restored when I no longer see the picture as a misleading representation.

Several nations copied our marine corps. Indonesia is one of them And I do believe the Phillipines also. Just small variations in the look.
