1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good. 2 God looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. 3 Everyone has turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. 4 Do all these evildoers know nothing? They devour my people as though eating bread; they never call on God. 5 But there they are, overwhelmed with dread, where there was nothing to dread. God scattered the bones of those who attacked you; you put them to shame, for God despised them. 6 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When God restores his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!

Study Note:

53:1 Echoing the message of Psalm 14, this psalm proclaims the foolishness of atheism (See also Romans 3:10). People may say there is no God in order to cover their sin, to have an excuse to continue in sin, and/or to ignore the Judge in order to avoid the judgment. A "fool" does not necessarily lack intelligence; many atheists and unbelievers are highly educated. Fools are people who reject God, the only one who can save them.

There's a battle going on in my brain. It seems to be between three distinct factions--good, bad and my family (which I believe to be good but I don't know with certainty). The findings in this search for truth (a search that I have been doing in earnest for the last several years) has almost paralyzed me. I wish to do good and at the same time to do no harm. Consequently I'm stuck in a loop of analysis. I am "loopy". The one true companion who has heard about it all is the only one who can save me. When I remember (re-member) my Almighty Creator, the hashing stops. Peace pervades my brain and I can only give glory and praise to Him.

Lord, guide us in our thinking and in our doing today. Remind us of your love and grace. Bring out the truth to guide us in your ways. Help us discern and discard what is false so that we can live in truth and peace. It is with overwhelming gratitude that I pray in Jesus' name, Your Son, my savior. Amen.
