Pay attention to the audits. Afghanistan is just a distraction.

Well I'm not in Texas. Being from Kansas I consider Texas to be the regional center. The region being the lower plains. Texas is also the gateway to the desert and the mountains. What happens in Texas effects New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas and Louisiana. While illegal immigration is a national issue I think it can be alleviated regionally through cooperation between the states. I really think that looking at history can help in times like this. I would look back to one of the foundations of the western way of governing. Back in the times of Greece and places where there were many smaller states that made up the whole of a country they would form mutual defense leagues. So for example. The Achaean League in the time of ancient Greece or the Hanseatic League in the Holy Roman Empire. These alliances allowed these collections of small states to more easily access resources and manpower that they would otherwise have no access to. I think we should do that. Create something like a regional FBIs or CIAs which only operates for the signatory states. So to give you an example let's say Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas and Louisiana signed on to this we could create a "Department for Immigration of the Lower Plains" which would operate in those states exclusively to mitigate illegal immigration.
Oh also one last thing. With DeSantis's law enforcement boys on their way to Texas I would see if they could be brought to help patrol around the Texas coast. I would imagine that there's a possibility that they know a thing or two about patrolling costal cities. They might not be able to do like coast guard level stuff but they might be able to run investigations in the cities on the coast of Texas.
