I'm of two minds on this, since striking down the eviction moratorium will cause quite a bit of pain to some people who don't deserve it. (Yes, they're some free-loaders, but not all!)
But, the decision was based on correct reasoning, that the CDC way over-stretched its authority. CDC has gradually been trying to move into areas like criminal justice, housing and child abuse for several decades, by declaring everything "public health" issues. They deserve this smack!
You are forgetting about the pain caused to landlords that are trying to run a business, or stay retired from rental income. Freeloaders should not be allowed to freeload at the expense of others , full stop
The government does not care about the tenants. They want to bankrupt the property owners so they are forced to sell. Big companies are buying up properties like crazy. This is a land grab.
This. This is coordinated destruction of our economy with the intention of driving as many people into poverty as possible.
Our money does a fine job of that.
Imo that was the point if the moratorium. Landlords couldn't evict so tenants didn't have to pay, but landlords could still be foreclosed and the deed transferred to a bank. The whole thing stinks of land grabbing transfer of wealth
Yes but the pain is caused by politicians shutting everything down . how else will we learn to not kill the economy without seeing some pain?
I'm so happy that they pointed out the CDC's misuse of an old statute to do this. These people are fucking power hungry and doing stupid shit like this.
Didn't they do this already and it was ignored?
Yes but reaffirming the law here at least makes it possible to arrest them if they do it again. They won't but it makes it possible. Also it makes Biden look even more incompetent than usual which seems to be the general media objective right now.
Who is going to arrest them? SCOTUS has no arrest powers. The Executive branch has those powers, and they aren't going to arrest themselves.
