Interesting. I see what you mean.

No story is new... all writers (and musicians) draw inspiration from old storys/ songs.

Some as overtly as just renaming characters. Others mixing ideas from several.

For example, the biblical stories seem to do this with more ancient egyptian and sumerian epics.

It's no different today.

My point being, game of thrones likely has inspiration from older stories.
