Bergoglio put out a fatwa- er, Apostolic letter- last month, effectively banning the Tridentine Rite (Traditional Latin Mass) as well as the Vatican II Roman rite. Priests need to get permission from the Vatican to perform them.
Which also follows his reforms on Exorcisms... not even trained Exorcists are allowed to use the original rite, they are forced to use the "minor" form (I.e., instead of casting out unclean spirits, the priest prays for intercession from the saints and angels).
Not a coincidence, he drives the flock further from God every day.
Guess what fren? Attended a Latin Mass this morning, the first mass I have attended since 1996. Came back to find this thread to let you know, as it was a direct result of my talking with a friend about the topics that came up in this discussion last week.
It was beautiful. I wept for reasons I'm still trying to unpack. It was like a whole different religion than what I experienced 1983-1996 going with my folks. First time I've even gone to any church by my own free choice, not because someone guilted me into it.
Thank you for getting the conversation started. Next week I'm bringing the wife and kids. My buddy is helping me research what it will take to baptise the kids myself. You may well have saved four souls, thought you'd appreciate knowing that.
I still say fuck the pope.......apparently now its not an insurmountable deal breaker.
34 years since my last confession, it may take a bit to get back to grace, but every journey begins with the first step.
The RC churches in this diocese every year or so 'merge' parishes, in other words closes 4 and herds everyone into 1 but a lot of people cant go that extra distance so they go to another denomination. Then bishop cant understand why church attendance is down so he decides to tax every household $250/yr on top of the tithes.
I'm hearing grumblings about banning Latin masses/closing monasteries from my Catholic friends.
