Look up mackinder world island theory. Basically country that controls the Eurasian land mass will control the world. There are competing theories which factor in as well.

One theory why US is always messing with shit over there is to prevent the integration of the world island. China is trying to integrate the world island with belt and road and of course be the hegemon of that area.
