Yes it looked like in one pic the person hanging from the helicopter was waving

To my untrained eye, it looked like he was in some sort of harness. I thought I noticed the head bobbing up and down a bit when I watched the video -- not likely to happen when you're hanging by your body weight from a rope tied tightly around your neck.
