When people write kekekek. I read it fast and I hear Popeyes laugh. Is that the inspiration?

I read the explanation tying it to World of Warcraft. I don't play it, but I understand it (I'm an old fashioned role playing gamer, have been DMing for Middle-earth Role playing for 40 years). Anyway... when I first came upon GAW, I thought kek was the the equivalent of lol, but kek was more reserved and wiser... as if the person was saying, "yeah, I have to acknowledge, that's pretty funny but I'm not the type to laugh out loud and out of control.". And that pleased me greatly! I liked the persona of the Anons, offering keks to one another when warranted, rather than frivolously lol-ing all the time. And the word kek fit the sound. Like Popeye as someone pointed out, but not an obnoxious string like Popeye. Just one well-deserved kek, when warranted... a badge of honor to be earned. That's how I see it, anyway.
