Yes and no. I'm all for private companies being able to do what they want (within reasonable law) - but then they shouldn't be protected either, which they are (in US etc) as not being publishers but public square. You can say all that you want. Just not on my lawn.
The other issue with social meda companies is that many of them (all the big players) is that they are obviously NOT only private companies - .gov and agency soup has their tentacles far inside it - which completely changes everything. And so you end up needing laws like that - again to protect the people form their own governments...
the mall analogy is a good one. Malls are public spaces that have to abide by Private company rules.
