I recently re-read the gospels. What I had never noticed before was how Jesus began his earthly ministry. Over and over, he says, “Repent!”
There are a lot of preachers who teach cheap grace, grace that demands nothing of us. Such teaching is pleasing to those who want to wallow in sin. I, for one, do not wish to grieve the Spirit. I try to live a righteous life.
Will that get me into heaven? Absolutely not, but because I love God I want to try to live in a way that will please him if I can. I fail sometimes, and know with certainty that only the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ is my only real hope.
I am a beneficiary of divine grace, thanks be to Jesus, son of the Living God, but that grace came at a terrible price.
