Don't forget nickels. The melt value of an ordinary nickel right now is about six cents. If you're lucky enough to find one of the WWII nickels with silver in them, that's worth about $1.34. I'm saving nickels and pre-1982 copper pennies. Even the newer zinc pennies are creeping up in melt value to more than 8/10 cent each.
