May just be local gossip on the local NextDoor app but people are observing the sudden disappearance of birds and also squirrels here in my Ohio community. We noticed oddly that as of 2 weeks ago no birds are visiting our feeder. Can others vouch for this? Odd? If real, what does it mean?

Here in rural Oregon the squirrels are out in force, playing chicken with vehicles on the backroads and mostly losing. I see them often on the property, zipping around to collect nuts during the day and watching me from trees at night when I'm walking our dog (well, I see their eyes shining in the light from my flashlight, anyway. It's really cute).
Birds have seemed scarce here to me for the last decade or so, honestly. Grew up in the midwest long ago when flocks of birds were sometimes breath-taking. Not so much here.
Another group that seems to be thinning here: insects. I don't mind that one but it doesn't sound good long-term.
