May just be local gossip on the local NextDoor app but people are observing the sudden disappearance of birds and also squirrels here in my Ohio community. We noticed oddly that as of 2 weeks ago no birds are visiting our feeder. Can others vouch for this? Odd? If real, what does it mean?

No where near you in New Brunswick, Canada, we have no shortage of birds or squirrels.
Seriously though, could be a hawk / predator bird has moved in, or has been frequenting your area lately. We've got lots of predator birds here and when the hawks and merlins are around, the little birdies bug out. I've seen it quiet for a couple days.
The big grey squirrels don't seem to mind, but the little red ones buzz off as well.
You didn't mention what birds you regularly get. If we're talking chickadees / sparrows a couple weeks is definitely odd. You may be getting just seasonal birds to your feeders. We notice the grackles and the nuthatches take off for south before the goldfinches and sparrows do.
I'm a fairly serious birder, pretty serious bird photographer and I take part in the yearly bird count for Canada.
