In 1996, the government of Australia enacted a mandatory gun buyback and destruction program after a mass shooting at Port Arthur. The lockdowns and tyranny they face today could have been prevented had they all stood up and said: “No. You will not take away my ability to defend myself.” Instead, they blindly followed and accepted this unlawful order. It broke my heart to see so many guns wasted, knowing full well that the government was now able to do whatever it wanted without impunity or risk of retribution. Think about that when you see politicians erasing our beloved Constitution and burning our Bill of Rights. Make sure you have enough ammo to last you a while. When stored in a cool, dry place, ammunition should last for a long time. When the police arrive in minutes, a gun is ready in seconds. I can’t carry a cop on my back 24/7, so I conceal carry instead.

He's talking about the political will. Even without using them, gun ownership is a strong deterrent to government overreach. In our country, various state and city governments have tried and are still trying millions of ways to limit this right, and we have made them pay for every inch, every time they try, and have largely keep that right intact, despite the thousand incremental harrassments and constant campaigns to scare us or guilt us into surrender.
It's not your fault Australia doesn't have the same constitution and legal framework that we do, in the USA we are truly blessed to have a strong legal foundation: but it's still a damn shame that the Aussies have been disarmed. Even without using our ammo, the government agents, or antifa, have to think twice before busting down doors. So far the right to have them has mostly kept us from having to use them, McCloskys and some others excepted.
You have done no such thing in resisting it. They haven't so far, because they don't need to. The amendment has been hollowed out by proxy laws you haven't done shit about.
Why is a fence going back up around D.C? You should be able to freely walk around D.C with your guns! Conceal carry permits would be ruled unconstitutional. Shall not be infringed... except fully is infringed by civil and local laws.
Like I said, abide the 2A and avail the illegitimate government of their power and come tell me how it went. I'll wait.
Port arthur has a "conspiracy" behind it.
May I ask about the conspiracy, ty and God Bless all our countries and long live Australia!
That it wasnt who they said it was. It was setup by john howard to take guns away. Theres a few evidence vids on youtube.. or was
Aussie Army veteran here. There are plenty of guns in Australia. The leftist talking point that all the guns were taken away is just bs. If you want a rifle, shotgun or pistol you can get one. There is a process to get one, but you also have a process, from what I understand in the US you can't just walk in off the street and waltz out packing iron. We don't have semi-auto weapons though, so you that on us for sure.
This misguided belief that your 2A is saving you from tyranny is just that, misguided. I see the same bs being played over there that is being played here.
I wish that your 2A was stopping things and that Trump was back in putting a halt to the globalist jackboots coming down on our heads, but it hasn't so far. I have hopium that things will change, but it isn't your 2A that is going to make that happen.
They're living in a delusional "AMERICA FUCK YEAH" world where America has all da guns and Australia is a prison colony with no guns and no fight.
Americans have a natural propensity towards incredible hubris. That's why we have Biden in the white house and Jan 6ers rotting in prison.
Unfortunately we are a bit of a prison colony, especially with the Biosecurity Emergency that our Health Minister put in place. There are only very limited reasons why you can travel out of Australia at the moment and 2 out of 3 applications are rejected. Although our pollies will tell you it is just that we are an island sanctuary and they are keeping us safe.....
We are fighting, unfortunately the majority of people are so far in debt that they can't afford to not keep working, toeing the line and doing what they are told to. It is a sad state of affairs, but it is the same in most western countries. Debt slavery is real and the rest of the govt trough feeders will keep eating from the trough and doing what they are told.
The media won't let any of the truth about the rallies get out, they use the same old tricks of labelling anyone questioning the vax as a crazy antivaxer. Those of us holding out are just waiting for this to blow over. It will, but at what cost long term? Families, friendships, businesses, etc destroyed by the lying media and corrupt pollies. Suicides and medical issues, outside of the vax issues, are going through the roof.
God save us all.
Oh, shut up. Where exactly have you used your gun for stopping the US Gov from doing "whatever it wanted without impunity or risk of retribution", exactly?
Go and take your gun to free the Jan 6th political prisoners or go and claim the white house back from an illegitimate president using the 2A for what it was intended for. Stop waiting on the never-gonna-happen Arizona audit, the 2022 corrupt elections or whatever moved goalpost you're waiting for and actually 2A the country back from these criminals.
Just try. I dare you. See how fast they use local and state laws to bypass your supposed 2A or just shoot you down without a second thought.
What's that? Q said no violence, no civil wars? Oh no, that sucks.
You can shit on Australia all you like, but every day you see posts on this board saying "no violence" or "it's a glow op" when people suggest anything. Alternatively, you have people moving the goalposts every day in cope posts about how we haven't even reached the precipice yet.
You're in no better position because you have a gun at all. It hasn't deterred anything. Go try using your gun for the 2A intended purpose and come back and tell me how it went. I'll wait.
If nothing else, the mere fact that many people own guns gives criminals pause. Antifa rioted where they felt protected, and stayed away from proactive gun ownership states. The political will that refuses to surrender the right to own and bear arms has kept this deterrent very much alive.
That deterrent gives pause to programs like the door-to-door vaxxing, or gun seizures, and it's real.
That said, in the United States, unlike Australia, we are blessed to have our constitution that protects this right in clear terms. I believe OP made a mistake in calling Australia's gun grab illegal, as similar legal protection does not exist in Australia or other Commonwealth countries.
Don't divert the topic of the argument. I was very specific with the topic and don't take kindly to a poor attempt to divert.
Have you used your 2A for its intended purpose? No. Can you legally? No. Why? Local and state and common laws override the 2A. The right to bear arms, is not the right to use them.
Did an armed population defend the White House? No. Did anyone form a well organized militia to defend the White House? No.
You have a second amendment in name only there. It's got zero to do with political will. It's already been hollowed out by the aforementioned overrides.
You are saying that guns not fired are useless, which is simply wrong. Deterrent value is real.
Yes, politicians have infringed upon our 2A freedoms in many jurisdictions, but even the most restrictive is a far cry from, and still leaves us better off than, the nationwide mandatory buyback in AU. And the political will to preserve gun rights is strong: even in one of the strictest states, California, restrictions against ar-15s and magazine limits were recently overturned. Every infringement is challenged, always.
We're not perfect by any means, but in regards to having firearms, our country's citizenry is in a better situation than AU's. That's no diss against the Aussies, it's just the truth.
lol that you actually believe that.
You might wanna turn your guns towards California and deter them from stealing another election. Again, I'll fucking wait for you to do something other than believe a burned out trope.
BTW, Australia literally still has weapons. You can easily get a gun license. There are gun shops you can go to to purchase weapons. Plenty of people have guns. Legal and illegal.
I don't think Americans fully understand the rest of the world. They still have guns, it's not like the entire country is unarmed. It's really cringeworthy watching Americans try and view the rest of their world through our rose tinted Americana lens.
