In 1996, the government of Australia enacted a mandatory gun buyback and destruction program after a mass shooting at Port Arthur. The lockdowns and tyranny they face today could have been prevented had they all stood up and said: “No. You will not take away my ability to defend myself.” Instead, they blindly followed and accepted this unlawful order. It broke my heart to see so many guns wasted, knowing full well that the government was now able to do whatever it wanted without impunity or risk of retribution. Think about that when you see politicians erasing our beloved Constitution and burning our Bill of Rights. Make sure you have enough ammo to last you a while. When stored in a cool, dry place, ammunition should last for a long time. When the police arrive in minutes, a gun is ready in seconds. I can’t carry a cop on my back 24/7, so I conceal carry instead.

Oh, shut up. Where exactly have you used your gun for stopping the US Gov from doing "whatever it wanted without impunity or risk of retribution", exactly?
Go and take your gun to free the Jan 6th political prisoners or go and claim the white house back from an illegitimate president using the 2A for what it was intended for. Stop waiting on the never-gonna-happen Arizona audit, the 2022 corrupt elections or whatever moved goalpost you're waiting for and actually 2A the country back from these criminals.
Just try. I dare you. See how fast they use local and state laws to bypass your supposed 2A or just shoot you down without a second thought.
What's that? Q said no violence, no civil wars? Oh no, that sucks.
You can shit on Australia all you like, but every day you see posts on this board saying "no violence" or "it's a glow op" when people suggest anything. Alternatively, you have people moving the goalposts every day in cope posts about how we haven't even reached the precipice yet.
You're in no better position because you have a gun at all. It hasn't deterred anything. Go try using your gun for the 2A intended purpose and come back and tell me how it went. I'll wait.
If nothing else, the mere fact that many people own guns gives criminals pause. Antifa rioted where they felt protected, and stayed away from proactive gun ownership states. The political will that refuses to surrender the right to own and bear arms has kept this deterrent very much alive.
That deterrent gives pause to programs like the door-to-door vaxxing, or gun seizures, and it's real.
That said, in the United States, unlike Australia, we are blessed to have our constitution that protects this right in clear terms. I believe OP made a mistake in calling Australia's gun grab illegal, as similar legal protection does not exist in Australia or other Commonwealth countries.
Don't divert the topic of the argument. I was very specific with the topic and don't take kindly to a poor attempt to divert.
Have you used your 2A for its intended purpose? No. Can you legally? No. Why? Local and state and common laws override the 2A. The right to bear arms, is not the right to use them.
Did an armed population defend the White House? No. Did anyone form a well organized militia to defend the White House? No.
You have a second amendment in name only there. It's got zero to do with political will. It's already been hollowed out by the aforementioned overrides.
You are saying that guns not fired are useless, which is simply wrong. Deterrent value is real.
Yes, politicians have infringed upon our 2A freedoms in many jurisdictions, but even the most restrictive is a far cry from, and still leaves us better off than, the nationwide mandatory buyback in AU. And the political will to preserve gun rights is strong: even in one of the strictest states, California, restrictions against ar-15s and magazine limits were recently overturned. Every infringement is challenged, always.
We're not perfect by any means, but in regards to having firearms, our country's citizenry is in a better situation than AU's. That's no diss against the Aussies, it's just the truth.
lol that you actually believe that.
You might wanna turn your guns towards California and deter them from stealing another election. Again, I'll fucking wait for you to do something other than believe a burned out trope.
BTW, Australia literally still has weapons. You can easily get a gun license. There are gun shops you can go to to purchase weapons. Plenty of people have guns. Legal and illegal.
I don't think Americans fully understand the rest of the world. They still have guns, it's not like the entire country is unarmed. It's really cringeworthy watching Americans try and view the rest of their world through our rose tinted Americana lens.
