It simply means lord. David used it to refer to Saul, Elisha's followers called him Adonai.
The word Adonai is simply the word for “Lord.” Lord is defined in English as “someone or something having power, authority, or influence; a master or ruler.” In 1 Samuel 24:8, 26:17, and 29:8, David refers to Saul as “my lord the king,” and he uses the term Adonai. Likewise, Abner refers to David in the same way in 2 Samuel 3:21, and this is found throughout the book of 2 Samuel as a reference to David. The term is used of other kings as well. Some of Elisha’s followers use the term Adonai to refer to Elisha in 2 Kings 2:19. As can be seen by its usage throughout the Old Testament, Adonai is simply a term of respect that is in keeping with the English definition and usage of the word lord.
I've never thought of naming any of my animals Lord although people use Rex, King Zeus etc.
It's up to you. I don't think it's blasphemous, just awkward.
Lol no but I'm a single woman in my 50s, no purse pet here I have a big female GSD who thinks small dogs are cats that bark. Even my four cats are too big for a purse lol. I have tried harness training them so I could take them for walks on leashes they just lay on the ground and say haaalp I can't move!

Great comment. To add to it, ancient Israelites used Adonai as a substitute for the Tetragrammaton name that they didn’t want to say.
Interesting, as much as I thought I knew about the Bible, religion it seems I know very little, until today I had not heard the term Tetragrammaton.
I do know that it's used as one of the names of God as well as El Shaddai which is one of my favorites.
Most of the time I just call Him friend, it's not about religion, it's about relationship after all. lol.
