I grew up near Johnson Space Center.

The Mercury Project had 2 versions. The real and the public.

Basically we had NASA and a real Space Program done by USAF Space Command that was totally off the books. The real Nazis ended up in the quiet program. Von Braun only was public because the scale of what he did. Too big to coverup
