I disagree, but I used to believe exactly the same way you do. It wasn't until 2007 that I changed my mind about the Bible being legitimate.
In reality, the Roman Catholic Church hid the Word of God away from the people as their control mechanism. We refer to these times as the Dark Ages for a reason.
When the Protestant Reformation began, there were lords and serfs, a society similar to what the powers that be are trying to recreate as we speak. When Martin Luther and John Wycliffe and others dared to translate the Word of God into their native tongues, the Roman Catholic Church set out to destroy them utterly.
History shows there were many martyrs but the Roman Catholic Church ultimately lost that battle.
What happened when Europe was exposed to the Gospel? Historians refer to that period as the Renaissance and Reformation. A middle class emerged composed of free thinking Christians who flourished beyond belief. Many of them left to the United States to escape persecution and created the greatest superpower the world has ever known.
Look at what's happened in the United States since prayer was removed from schools and the majority turned their backs on the Gospel. Even many of those who claim to be Christians are not versed in the Word and attend churches that preach inclusivity instead of sin and the need for repentance (or changing our minds about sin) and accepting Christ as our Savior. Our civilization has become more and more degenerate as we've turned our backs on God, and we are now suffering because of it.
