If someone just wants to do individual vitamins. I recommend a liquid vit D. My neurologist has me on that because he said you will absorb it better under the tongue vs pill form. I take a D3\K2 combo which is what he wants me to take. The vit K helps you absorb the D more efficiently.
Actually vitamin K helps transport the vitamin D into our bones rather than leaving it in the bloodstream, so we avoid osteoporosis and have strong bones.
I keep looking for a supplement with D3/K2/Magnesium/Calcium, but I'll be damned if I can find it at a dosage that is high enough to do any good. I got the Dr. Z protocol, so I guess I can just add calcium.
I take 10,000 IU of D and a Life Extension Super K daily mainly because it is so helpful. It is hard to find combinations with the amounts you need so I end up with a lot of single vitamins. I actually stopped taking extra calcium but I take extra magnesium. Yeah, taking supplements is a full time job...knowing the right balance of what you need and the right amounts.
What form of magnesium do you take? I've found l-theonate to be the one that agrees with me the best. I've read varying data about calcium, and probably don't need much more since I eat dairy on a regular basis. I might have to check out the Super K--I get my K from Viactiv, which I take for the calcium. Been kinda worried about starting Z's protocol since it has 10,000 IU of D3 and then I get more from the Viactiv. I don't want to reach a toxic level.
But yeah, I agree completely about how taking supplements is a full-time job--the cool part is that you can tell pretty quickly if something doesn't agree with you and remove it from your protocol. Well, unless it kicks you into detox, in which case you feel like crap for a while. Quercitin has done that to me, for some reason, but since I've been taking that and NAC, it seems my constant insomnia is gone, and I've had that since I was a kid.
