There's two different things. There's an author paraphrasing fauci, like you did. And then there's an exact excerpt from his paper.

I'm 99% sure he doesn't mention bacterial infections.... "due to masks"

If someone wants to correct me, I'd love to be wrong

Well, I thought I was reading his very own report published on NIH.gov, but it was over a year ago and I could be wrong about that. I also read it two different times and both times my takeaway was that he was blaming it on the masks, but I guess I could be wrong about that, too.
