Possible false flags that I've considered:

China invades Taiwan, swamping the news for as long as is needed.
Gabby Petito has a "breaking report" that drops at 3:50 and drowns the news for days.
Some famous guy dies or is suicided.
"Terrorist" attack that kills hundreds of people similar to 9/11.

If worst comes to worst and it still breaks the news, then they'll shut down the internet for 10 days.
