Its not enough to merely switch your TV off.. some innocent soul might turn it on accidentally and be forever more with the purple hair, pronouns and fake-news.
And if you throw it out, someone might retrieve it and turn it on in their own home amongst impressionable minds! Best to put an axe or hammer through the screen to stop it getting reactivated.

You could remove the wifi and epoxy all the inputs except HDMI and have a really good desktop monitor.
I used a broken TV as a monitor for a couple of years.

It's a kick in the teeth to the controllers, they probably subsidise TVs
If it weren't for television, no one would know there was a pandemic. No dead bodies in the streets. No dead bodies in homes. Only on TV.
