We were talking about this yesterday. Since when did they stop swabbing from the mouth, then through the nose, then 6 inches up your nose close to the brain? All for a test that is to be discontinued because of false positives.
Its because they are not taking a specimen but depositing something.
It looks like puncturing the membrane and causing lesions (especially from repeat tests) would likely compromise the immune system - kind of like removing the blockers in American Football and expecting the QB to come out unscathed.
