They did great against civilians but when the Vietnamese military geared up, they handed the chinese their asses.
The Taiwanese are well trained, well equipped and highly motivated... I doubt the chinese with their homemade knockoff equipment will even get close to the shoreline.
At best all they'll do is use their ships to lay a foundation for a bridge to the mainland.
