You know thinking about this, I think it's the Arabs fault. Because Egypt is part of Africa both Egypt and Ethiopia had thriving countries then the Arabs came and with the Arabs came a lot of war because that is just how Islam is a barbaric war like religion. If the Arabs never came I do believe the Egyptian empire would have grown (I believe at that time they were under Rome) and would have pushed into the lower continent of Africa. One of the things about Africa is the massive jungles they have it would have taken a lot of deforestation to get established really well. I do believe if they had the time they would have done alright for themselves and we would see a vastly different continent than we do today.
So it really comes down to two people's faults, the Orthodox Church (which would just have been the Church at that time and then split into the Oriental Orthodox Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church) and the Islamic invasion. If the Church didn't have a schisim that causes countries to be at war they would have been united to fight the invasion of the Arabs.
Very interesting POV. I'm no expert on history, especially in that part of the world. Egypt/Ethiopia/Eritrea have all produced civil societies. The big experiment of Liberia is a Petri dish of a "black ruled" society. And now that the whites were pushed out of Rhodesia/Zimbabwe, it's gone to shit and SA is doing the same. Hard to blame anyone other than those in charge.

Eritrea is also another Orthodox country, so might have something to do with that.
