They thought someone else would suffer at the precipice. They thought this was "V for Vendetta" where some masked hero would simply have to blow up an empty building and all would be better. Instead, it looks like what has to get blown up is the very thing our economy is based on and that sucks.
Complacency had to be blown up so people could become aware, energized and activated by the realization that their survival, our survival is on the line. People had to realize that we arent in a TV war but in a REAL war right here thats inescapable.
Remember Qs movie link, "only on the precipice can people find the WILL to change"?
Also remember Qs links to 'The Promontory' from 'Last of the Mohicans'? That was the scene where the dad was racing to help his son. He was praying that his son would hold on to hope, choose life and decide to fight rather than give up.
Tragically, the son believed his situation was hopeless and jumped off the precipice to his death. If he'd chosen to fight, he would have won and his tribe would have lived on. Instead it died with his death. Lesson? Even if it seems hopeless, never give up. Keep fighting.
