They look a little better in s2

But...

Everything is world-ending-nonstop action hot garbage.

The saving grace of the show was Lorca and Pike. Both awesome actors with a good story behind them.

No exploration. No philosophy. Just a pretty dumpster fire with a almost decent storyline in the background.
