That was a good read.
However, the comments section there is cancer. They literally are claiming trump supporters and conservatives are on the same level as the janitor brown shirt in the story. Or worse that our desire is to build gas chambers and genocide them.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Nazi's during that time also elevated their own thoughts and actions that were despicable evil violations of human rights to be thought of as virtuous. So from the perspectives of the comment section there, they are doing the same thing by vilifying everyone else and virtue signaling their own "goodness" to each other.
I find reading comments like this a heartache on a different kind of horror level than the actual stories themselves. We live amongst very sick and deranged people !
Sophie and her brother were very brave, they should never be forgotten. The rat who turned them in was a coward through and through. We are now surrounded by unprincipled cowards. I'd rather be taken out of this world than have to exist among them.
Alone in Berlin by Hans Fallada is an excellent book about this period, with a character who does similar acts of bravery and pays the same price.
Reading the comments made me go "And you are a Jakob Schmid, and you are a Jakob Schmid, and you and you and you!". It's funny...even though I don't consider myself a conservative I find myself looking at the left and thinking "What happened? Why are you like this? Can you not step back and see what your saying?"
I like how one person conflated that owning guns makes you a nazi. Fun times eh comrade?

Agreed. I thought it was great until I got into the train wreck comments.
