Very interesting! This article has link upon link about turmeric and other spices and drugs, and black pepper, and it looks to me like black pepper is the magic ingredient that makes other drugs more bioavailable.
And a fat too, if I remember correctly. I used to make golden paste with coconut oil and freshly ground freshly ground black pepper. I used to spread that on my toast in the morning.
