I'm OK with this as long as we can change the definition of "illegal drugs" to exclude naturally derived medicines such as THC. IMO, nothing wrong with a little pot to calm the nerves and I hate that choosing to use it, even if in moderation, automatically disqualifies perfectly good people from all kinds of high paying jobs.
These kinds of determinations should take into account whether the person is a casual/medicinal user vs abuser.
How about heroin and cocaine? Both naturally derived. Peyote? And there are others.
Honestly as long as its not affecting job performance what's the issue? We all agree the government shouldn't be able to force anyone to get an injection no matter what it is, so why are we OK saying anyone can restrict you from imbibing certain substances in your spare time? Personally I think there should be no restrictions (obvious exceptions for operating heavy equipment and anything that could endanger others, but again, doing it in the privacy of your own home should be no one's business but your own).
Because honest taxpayers end up footing the bill.
I'd be willing to compromise on that, but I wonder about people that need mind altering chemicals just to fill in some spare time. Only in the most dire personal circumstances can I understand someone needing something like THC or alcohol to ease emotional/psychological pain so they can survive the evening. Highs or drunkenness should not be forms of recreation.
That's a matter of opinion, and if we are free, we have the right to make those choices, including self-medicating with whatever is available. Also, many so-called "illegal" substances have more than just "recreational" uses.
Just so long as they can act responsibly while using, such as no driving under the influence, etc.
